Fatman circa 2009 and 400+ lbs
Yep, that’s me! Circa 2009, and 400+ lbs

Back in 2014, a conversation about running or hiking to the top of a mountain might as well have been in some foreign language. For a forty-something desk jockey weighing in at 407 lbs, those kinds of activities were all but fantasy. Even if my mind told me I could, my body would say, “are you f**king kidding me?”. Had some carnival clairvoyant told me that by 2016 I would be referring to myself as a runner, I would have demanded a refund, and asked them what they were smoking!

Well, my friends, that’s exactly why we are here.

Believe me, the fish were MUCH bigger than they looked!

Fast-forward a year or two and not only is yours truly no longer 407 lbs. And that runner thing? I proudly use that moniker in reference to myself on a daily basis! Those “fantastical” mountain peaks… well to start, I’ve been to the top of Guadalupe Peak, the highest point in Texas at 8751’ above sea level! And there’s more…much more, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves here… sit back and enjoy the journey.

This blog is about me and my travels, my fitness journey, my experiences, the products I love (and don’t). But as much as it is about me, this blog is for you. You, who, like me, are ready to make a change. You, who are tired of being “that big guy/girl”. You, who have seen too many people close to you living (and dying) with health problems. You, who want to do more, travel more… and feel better doing it!

Sound familiar? If so, then you’ve come to the right place. I’m here to share what I have learned on my journey, with the hope that my story can help inspire even ONE person to live a longer, happier, healthier life. All I ask in return is that you be a part of this community. I always welcome your comments. Feedback is appreciated and encouraged. Please feel free to reach out, to share… to disagree. The goal of this blog is not only to share my story but to build a supportive community of like-minded folks through open, honest sharing and discussion.

It has been, and will be one hell of a ride!
